On 15 and 16 March 2024, Philippe Roaldes, color designer at a3dc and professor at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, took part in the study days entitled “Raisons et déraison de la couleur – une histoire de la couleur à travers les Arts Décoratifs, 1968 – 2024”. This exceptional event, made up of lectures and round tables, brought together in an unprecedented way the most eminent minds who have shaped, shared and taught color at EnsAD Paris from 1968 to the present day.
For Philippe Roaldes, these days provided an opportunity to address the contemporary challenges of teaching color and to present his teaching methodology as a color teacher, while exploring the innovative approach of Metacolour: the study of color through the prism of temporality, the environment and the observer.
The event was also marked by the presence of Jean-Philippe Lenclos, founder of a3dc, who shared his journey and retraced the evolution of the concept of the ‘Geography of Color’. This unique methodology, which our agency has inherited, continues to be enriched on a daily basis in our practice of color in architecture.
