Conflans Sainte-Honorine, master color scheme
At the request of the town council, a3dc designed the colour scheme for the facades of the 25 houses and buildings lined up along the Quai de la République, a major entrance to the town and the first point of contact with Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.
This geographical location explains the strategic importance of their rehabilitation and the exemplary treatment of an urban sequence with disparate architecture but ideally placed, facing due south towards the Seine and bordered by majestic plane trees providing charm and shade.
In this project, carried out in collaboration with the architectural firm LDRP, a3dc drew its inspiration from the use of colour found in the barge industry, a tradition that is still very much alive on the banks of the Seine in Conflans, and laid this urban sequence on a dark grey base inspired by the coaltar used to caulk barges, giving a powerful linear quay to this entrance to the town. This highly graphic grey line, which unites the town and its quay with the river and its barges, is also complemented by a palette of warm, assertive ochres for the treatment of the façades, their chromaticism inspired both by the materials and surveys carried out in the town and by the port towns of northern Europe. The warm palette designed by a3dc for the façades is tempered and unified by a range of neutral greys and subtle coloured greys for the punctual palette of windows, shutters, doors and gates.
